Sue and John, many thanks for your warm welcome upon our arrival in NZ and for your kind hospitality during our short visit. A sound sleep in a comfortable bed, followed by warm blueberry muffins in the morning got us off to a great start.
One of the wonderful places we have ever stayed. Best way to finish vacation. I’m sure we will come back to continue our conversation with Susan about language, culture and arts.
This is without exception the best place that I have ever stayed away from my home. Good food, stimulating conversation and a long hot bath are just the way to start the day.
Thanks so much for opening your gorgeous home to us and for your hospitality. Our visit with you was our last stop in a month-long journey. We arrived travel-weary and the comforts of the room and the house made us feel quickly refreshed and revived.
Thank you for being so welcoming so helpful and so hospitable. You made our first days in New Zealand so comfortable and easy – with wise counsel and thoughtful recommendations. Your home is beautiful and it was a treat to stay here. And as noted frequently in earlier messages, the breakfasts were great. Stay well.
We can’t thank you enough for all of your help – before our trip with all the helpful hints as we made our plans and once we arrived in Auckland all the wonderful stories and advice you gave us.
Its been a wonderful start to a very special journey for us. Your hospitality is second to nine and we appreciate it all. I know we’ll have such fond memories of our visit with you.
Our trip to New Zealand began and ended with your warm hospitality. You epitomised Kiwi friendliness, care and openess, and your house – so lovingly restored – made us feel right at home. We will certainly recommend you to all our friends who are fortunate enough to come this way.
Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality. We enjoyed staying with you in your beautiful home filled with loving care and treasured memories. We appreciated your kindness in making us feel so welcomed and at home. Thank you Susan for trying to teach me “napkin folding”. We enjoyed our first night of our New Zealand vacation at your home – Thank you again. P.S. Your breakfast was great.

We had a wonderful time at Braemar and would highly recommend it to others (we will be doing that on the Cruise Critics website). Thank you for the great hospitality and the extra time you took to explain everything from Crickett to some of the local history. We really enjoyed your “New Zild” language lessons and your Thespian creativity in interpreting the language. Thanks for a terrific stay.

Thanks for a great 4 days – the room and home was very good but what made it unforgettable was your willingness to be around for your guests. This turned it from being a good guest house to being a great experience.
We could not have picked a more perfect place to start our stay in New Zealand. You are both so warm and welcoming, we immediately felt at home. Thank you for all you did to make our stay so enjoyable. I will miss our breakfast conversations.

A beautiful home and wonderful hosts. Every detail – personally, architecturally, socially – a delight. A brief but most pleasant stay. Thank you Susan and John for your attention to us.
Thank you so much for your hospitality and welcoming us into your home. We had a wonderful stay in Auckland and will take fond memories back home with us to Vancouver.
The place was amazing ! The rooms were great and we were huge fans of the fruit salad and the breakfast in general. I wish we could’ve stayed longer.
We could not have found a better way to come to the end of our visit to NZ than to have stayed at your wonderful home – so beautifully restored – you have been a most welcoming host. We do hope to return.
A real find in the middle of the city. Situated on a quiet road Braemar is in walking distance to all the sites. The hosts were extremely welcoming, especially to the children and very knowledgeable about the area. The food was excellent and they were able to cater for a special diet.
My daughter and I stayed at Susan and John Sweetman’s grand, beautifully restored Edwardian townhouse in Auckland’s central business district, Braemar on Parliament Street. The accommodations are top-notch, the breakfast divine (organic breads, fruits and yoghurts and a special hot dish). The Sweetmans genuinely love sharing their adventures and hearing those of their guests. The gorgeous home has three guest rooms, two for $180 NZ (about $132 US) and a suite for $250 NZ ($183 US). This includes breakfast, complimentary tea and coffee, e-mail and Internet access. You would pay at least twice that in the United States for the same accommodations, and their hospitality is priceless.
Wonderful hospitality. Susan and John have made Braemar perfect. The best beds, wonderful breakfasts and relaxing atmosphere made this a standout during our trip.I am so happy we stayed there. I would recommend it to everyone.
Owners are great. Friendly, willing to help out wherever possible and do not intrude. House is fantastic – lovingly restored in a victorian style. Breakfast delicious. Highly recommended.
This is a wonderful bed-and-breakfast in an Edwardian town house. There are three bedrooms recently renovated to their original look. The location is very central [in the heart of the central business district]. The owners’ enthusiasm for helping their guests was unlimited. There is a choice of three rooms, which all come with goose-down duvets and pillows.
Hi Susan and John,
I hope all is well with both of you. ….. my husband and I stayed with you last June on our Honeymoon. I thought I would share the magazine article that was written up in a small US magazine about our honeymoon which mentions our stay with you. I hope to be back and visit soon
New Zealand is now my favourite country, and from our very first e-mail exchange you set me up to appreciate it fully. I was early inarriving, late for breakfasting, in need of an electrical converter for my videocam, too early for one breakfast, and burdened with very heavy baggage — all of which you cheerily assisted me in dealing with. You’ve both been friendly and consummate hosts in the home that has deserved the loving care you’ve given it. While here I’ve learned much, and you put me on the road to that happy experience. Thank you. I shall continue spreading the word about your superb bed & breakfast at Braemar.
We have enjoyed our stay in your charming home. How wonderful to hear birdsong and no traffic noise in the centre of Auckland city. It has been fun to be tourists in our own city. Best wishes.
Many thanks for your warm welcome and for being so fantastic hosts! You have made your house a marvellous place, extremely relaxing while in the city centre. You were so kind, taking care for everything. We couldn’t wish for anything more. Best wishes and again, thank ou so much for our wonderful stay in Auckland.
Thanks for being such fantastic hosts. Despite the weather you made our stay very enjoyable and much easie with the kids in tow….look forward to coming back to visit in the future.
Can not tell you how enjoyable it has been staying in your beautiful home. Luckily there are people like yourselves protecting our heritage so we can have an experience like this one.

We had a wonderful time at the Braemar. A high level of personal service, delicious breakfasts and an excellent location for exploring Auckland. And a great value, too. Thanks!
The Braemar was great. The house has been restored beautifully and is in a great central location. John and Susan were fabulous hosts and made me feel very welcome. The pancakes were fantastic.
The quality of the accommodation and the warm welcome were way above my expectations. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic. I look forward to visiting again soon!
What a lovely place. To be offered tea/coffee as soon as you arrive and to have this served in beautiful old china cups is such a nice touch. This place is obviously a labour of love. Susan and John are a charming couple and to find such a place in downtown Auckland, is a real gem.
Excellent. The owners made us feel at home, could not fault anything.
